Third generation Advanced High Strength Steel requires a high manganese content. A novel method of manganese addition has been proposed through reductive alloying. This work seeks to determine the rate control and mass transfer coefficients in the reaction of manganese oxide bearing slags with metallic reductants like silicon and carbon. Using this information a model can be developed and shared with industrial partners.
